Your Role Overview
The DESE (Department of Early & Secondary Education) Skills Trainer can provide community and/or in-home direct services to individuals between the ages of 6 to 22. This person works directly under the supervision of the individual’s family and will receive oversight by The Arc’s DESE Coordinator. Working one-on-one, the Skills Trainer will increase the individual’s life skills, ADL skills, community opportunities, safety or skills identified by the family to have positively impact quality of life.
Your Responsibilities
· Develop and maintain supportive working relationships with program members.
· Ensure the rights and dignity of all people supported is always upheld.
· Completing all necessary documentation to assure compliance with the DESE Program. These may include completion of timesheets.
· Maintaining strict confidentiality for all consumer information and facility operations.
· Address challenging behaviors proactively and respectfully, using methods of Positive Behavioral Supports.
Qualifications
· Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and for Arc’s mission statement
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.
· Windows, iOS, Microsoft Word, and Outlook experience desired, as well as ability to proficiently utilize video conferencing platforms and cloud-based software.
· Proven success developing positive working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
· High School degree required with minimum of 5 years’ experience working with persons with disabilities. Preferably a BA degree or Associates Degree with 2-3 years in a related field preferred.
· Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and must be able to pass criminal background checks.
· CPR/First Aide (Training will be provided)
Physical Effort
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, sit, reach, and climb stairs.
· Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or the use of two-person lift.
