Skills Trainer

In-home Skill Instructors are responsible for working with individuals with special needs and their families in a variety of areas including activities of daily living, community integration, behavior management and social skills. Schedules are to be arranged with the family receiving the services. Charles River Center Family Support Navigators should be made aware of any changes in scheduling.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES

In collaboration with the Family and the CRC Support Navigator, develop a schedule and a plan to support the individual receiving services within the home and the community.

Provide supervision of the individual receiving services in the home and the community at all times. Any unsupervised time should be reviewed and agreed upon with the family.

Treat the individual and their family members with respect.

Support the individual receiving services to integrate into the community & participate with them during community-based activities as appropriate.

Notify the Family Support Navigator, the Program Director, or the Director of Family and In-Home Supports of any problems, conflicts, or mishaps that may occur while providing in-home services.

Follow families requests about their family members diet, interventions, medications, & preferred activities. Collaborate and communicate with the family about updates, changes, and other information that might impact the individuals support.

Treat the familys possessions or supplies appropriately.

When requested by the family, attend collaborative meetings when appropriate in order to share information and participate in the individuals goal planning.

Read and follow any behavior plan/interaction guidelines that are set forth by the individuals team.

Demonstrate effective use of Positive Behavioral Supports.

Complete a unique progress note each time a time sheet is submitted, with a short review of goals that were worked on. Complete semi-annual progress updates as requested by the family or CRC Support Navigator.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibility: Adheres to company policies and procedures and follows company guidelines in conducting business relationships.

Attendance: Adheres to program schedule and routines, which includes arriving to assigned location promptly and conforms to the agencys attendance standards. Attend all required meetings and trainings promptly.

Initiative: Self-reliance in thinking, planning, and carrying out job responsibilities. Demonstrates problem solving skills.

Management: Supports and enforces agency policies and objectives; sets example through personal conduct and performance.

Data collection: Shares data, reviews information, and collaborates with the team as indicated by the family or the CRC Support Navigator.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, Bachelors Degree preferred. Must have direct support experience with people with ID/DD.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of the following trainings: CPR and First Aid Certification; Human Rights; Universal Precautions; Mandated Reporting; DPPC; Fire Safety and Vehicle Safety.
  • Working knowledge of the use of behavior modification techniques.
  • Must be willing to authorize a Criminal History Background Check (CORI) and release information concerning allegations from Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC), Department of Disability Services (DDS), and other agencies.
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable employees with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
  • Drivers License that is valid in Massachusetts and reliable personal transportation.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft applications.
