The Nurse Director is responsible for the oversight of health care services provided in designated residential programs. The Nurse Director, in conjunction with the Director of Health Care Services develops health related policies and procedures, monitors health care services and provides supervision to assigned nursing staff.


PRIMARY DUTIES (other duties may be assigned):

Quality Assurance

  • Participate in the development/interpretation of policies and procedures and ensure consistent application and implementation of medical/nursing policies.
  • Conduct audits of health care record-keeping practices and develop and implement tools to document such audits. Compile data on significant health related matrixes and patterns to inform process improvement.
  • Ensure the development of healthcare plans for all individuals in collaboration with other health care providers. Ensure that management and nursing staff are effectively implementing these plans through auditing practices, training and documentation.
  • Monitor and document compliance with all medication administration policies and procedures by ensuring audits of programs are occurring on a regular basis.

Staff Management and Development

  • Provide supervision to assigned nurses in accordance with CRCs Supervision Policy. Role model professional standards and mentor nursing staff. Implement progressive disciplinary measures as required.
  • Assume a leadership role in the hiring of new nurses.
  • Ensure compliance with established policies and procedures related to ongoing supervision, training and professional development of nursing staff.
  • Complete orientation documentation and annual performance appraisals for direct reports.
  • Ensure staff adherence to agency policies and procedures.

Nursing Consultation, Case Management and Coordination

  • Provide nursing consultation to nursing staff, program management, direct care staff, individuals and families and act as a resource for them in accessing information.
  • Provide healthcare case management and coordination for individuals whose heath care issues are complex or acute. As appropriate, attend individuals medical appointments or case conferences with other healthcare providers.
  • Provide on-site assessment or treatment of individuals, as needed.

PRIMARY DUTIES (other duties may be assigned):

  • Assist in locating and maintaining relationships with appropriate health care providers. Maintain knowledge of third party insurance, Medicare and Medicaid regulations and insurance practices.
  • Coordinate or directly participate in discharge planning meetings prior to the discharge of individuals to CRCs residential homes.
  • Health Care Training
  • Provide CRC staff with Medication Administration Program certification training. Tutor staff in preparation for the exam and provide refresher courses for those needing re-certification.
  • Implement and review medical protocols and procedures.
  • Keep abreast of all DDS, DPH, and MAP regulations to ensure full compliance by CRC.
  • Provide specific training in a variety of healthcare topics as appropriate and needed; such as safe management of infectious diseases, management of epilepsy, modified diets, etc. Other Duties
  • Interface with DDS and DPH healthcare staff in giving input to policy and procedures for the community service health care system.
  • Assist in coordinating the ordering and safe storage of healthcare related equipment and supplies.

Management: Supports and enforces agency policies and objectives; sets example through personal conduct and performance.
Data collection: Collects data, compiles information and prepares reports in a timely and accurate fashion.

Bachelors Degree in Nursing required.
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required.
Minimum of five years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a community setting.
Successful completion of all state and agency mandated trainings.
Must be willing to authorize a Criminal History Background Check (CORI) and release information concerning allegations from Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC), Department of Developmental Services (DDS), and other agencies.

Drivers License that is valid in Massachusetts and reliable personal transportation.
