Direct Care/Staff I

INTRODUCTION:

The Assistant Program Director will assist the Vice President and Program Directors in overseeing the efficient and effective daily operation of services within their assigned area. The Assistant Program Director will be responsible for the supervision, training and support provided to all assigned staff within the program component; ensuring that assigned Individual support plans are implemented, that adequate and quality supports are provided, that goals are carried out and that the program component operates in accordance with agency policies and procedures. The Assistant Program Director provides case management support to assigned Individuals, is a resource to Individuals families, residential staff and the Individual Support Plan team, and works cooperatively with referral agencies and other community members to facilitate Individuals goal achievement.

 

 

ESSENTIAL PROGRAM DUTIES (other duties may be assigned):

Assist Program Director with interviewing, hiring, orienting, training, supervising and evaluating all assigned staff in accordance with agency policy and procedures. Reinforce a team approach by working closely with program staff, setting clear expectations, providing feedback, regular communication and support.

Participate in the Intake and Orientation process for new Individuals. Give input to Program Director re: assigning new Individuals to Case Managers caseloads. Participate and negotiate in case conferences and support planning. Act as a resource to Individuals, families, referral and residential staff.

Assist Program Director with goal development and data collection to evaluate needs of program and outcomes of goals. Analyze operation effectiveness relating to services and resources within program component. Participate in development of policies and procedures for the agency.

Maintain positive work relationship with Charles River Center employees and members, Individuals families, referral agencies, private industry and other community members to ensure satisfaction with program operations, staff and Individual performance.

Demonstrate effective use of Positive Behavioral Supports.

Actively participate in the development of community inclusion options for Individuals (for employment, educational or recreational/leisure interest activities), in accordance with their goals and preferences, and the assigned program component.

Train assigned staff re: creating meaningful, integrative community options for Individuals & monitor staffs success within this area.

Instruct staff in the day-to-day, public relations and marketing aspects of their position. Monitor staffs presentations to Individuals team members and other Individuals, their verbal and written communication skills and ensure an overall polished and professional appearance to promote a positive image for the program, agency and Individuals.

Assist Program Director in providing clinical consultation to program staff for caseload management and facilitating implementation of Individuals Individual Support Plans and goal achievement. Develop the appropriate needs assessments and goals of the Individual Support Plans and methods for implementation requested by the Individual; support Individuals choices in program planning. Instruct staff in methods and techniques used to teach and interact effectively with Individuals, in a normalizing and age appropriate manner.

Organize and update Individual records. Ensure that assigned staff follows policy and procedures re: case record maintenance and complete required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner. Participate in Case Records and Quality Assessment Surveys and Reporting and ensure that staffs are trained to actively participate in these processes.

Assist program staff in helping Individuals with personal care needs, including wheelchair transfers.

Coordinate staff schedules (vacations, meetings, etc.) ensuring adequate Individual supports are available.

Implement Health and Safety policies and procedures, and ensure that assigned staffs are trained to implement same. Report any health/safety issues to Program Director.

Initiative: Self-reliance in thinking, planning, and carrying out job responsibilities. Demonstrates problem solving skills.

Management: Supports and enforces agency policies and objectives; sets example through personal conduct and performance.

Data collection: Collects data, compiles information and prepares reports in a timely and accurate fashion.

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be fluent in English and have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write advanced reports and correspondence. Ability to communication effectively with members served in their primary mode of communication, members under supervision, employees of the organization, families and members of the community. Ability to effectively present information individually and in small groups.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee is frequently required to use hands/fingers to handle objects, tools or controls and to reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently be able to generate the force to maneuver up to 100 pounds. Assistance in lifting members will be provided whenever possible. Employee must be able to lift up to 30 pounds from floor to waist and 10-15 pounds from waist to overhead.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Human Services and two years experience required, with at least one year experience in Staff Supervision; and one year experience in Supported Employment, Job Development and Placement.
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Successful completion of all state and agency mandated trainings.
  • Working knowledge of the use of Positive Behavioral Supports is preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be willing to authorize a Criminal History Background Check (CORI) and release information concerning allegations from Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC), Department of Disability Services (DDS), and other agencies.
