INTRODUCTION: Relief staff provide per diem coverage to various CRC departments as requested with a maximum of 34 weekly hours. Relief staff are responsible for the implementation of the individuals ISPs and programs, providing direct care and supervision to individuals served, and carrying out the necessary operations and activities as directed. Relief staff work in accordance with the principles of normalization, and in accordance with the mission, principles, policies and procedures established in the Charles River Center Policies and Procedures Manual.

 

ESSENTIAL PROGRAM DUTIES (other duties may be assigned):

Provide per diem coverage to various CRC homes as scheduled. Maintain systems, routines and support plans as directed by the Program Director(s).

Implement and review of Individual Support Plans as assigned by the Program Director(s).

Provide direct care support, instruction and supervision to individuals including: medical, dental and personal care, education skills, social skills, meal preparation, clothing purchase and care, travel training, telephone usage, postal services, monitoring and assisting with individuals funds, religious practice if desired, self-preservation and other areas identified in the annual plan.

Provide information to individuals with regard to social, leisure, educational and developmental activities. Coordination of activities with individuals input.

Assist with house maintenance, errands and grocery shopping. Foster resident participation in these activities. Maintain clean and pleasant environment. Housekeeping tasks as required.

Collect and review data on individuals programs as assigned.

Demonstrate effective use of Positive Behavioral Supports.

Assist residents in abiding by House Rules for individual homes.

Advocacy regarding human and legal rights.

Transport individuals to activities and appointments as assigned by Program Director(s).

Record Keeping as assigned by Program Director(s).

Communicate with other related service providers to insure quality of services is maintained through the transfer of pertinent information.

Attend in-services and other trainings and meetings as assigned or requested.

Communicate concerns & issues to Program Director(s).

Maintain financial records of individuals and house funds as requested.


RE: Residential Awake Overnight Relief Staff:

Provide personal care and monitoring of basic health and safety, necessitating that staff remain awake and alert at all times during shift.

Provide emergency coverage past the end of assigned shifts due to inclement weather or lack of relief availability.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be fluent in English and have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write advanced reports and correspondence. Ability to communication effectively with members served in their primary mode of communication, members under supervision, employees of the organization, families and members of the community. Ability to effectively present information individually and in small groups.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee is frequently required to use hands/fingers to handle objects, tools or controls and to reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently be able to generate the force to maneuver up to 100 pounds. Assistance in lifting members will be provided whenever possible. Employee must be able to lift up to 30 pounds from floor to waist and 10-15 pounds from waist to overhead.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess or be enrolled in a course of study culminating in an undergraduate or higher degree in human services; in certain instances, experience and other qualifications may be sufficient.
  • Knowledge and use of principle of Normalization and Community Inclusion.
  • Knowledge and use of Positive Behavioral Supports, restraint and PAB techniques.
  • Valid Massachusetts Drivers License.
  • Certification requirements (All staff must become certified and must maintain certifications at all times):
    • Medication Administration Program- optional for Relief staff
    • Fire Safety, Human Rights, Mandated Reporting, Universal Precautions
    • Safety Care- must become certified within the first 6 months of employment
    • Legal Restraint Training- must become certified within the first 6 months of employment
    • Standard First Aid- must become certified within the first 30 days of employment
    • CPR- must become certified within the first 30 days of employment
