Adult Companion

Adult Companions are responsible for providing support, supervision, and socialization for an individual with ID/DD in his/her home; in their family home or in the community. Schedules are to be arranged with the family receiving the services. Charles River Center Family Support Staff should be made aware of any changes in scheduling status.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES

Provide support for the individual as needed. This may include assistance with meals and activities of daily living according to the support and supervision needed.

Demonstrate effective use of Positive Behavioral Supports.

Integrate the individual into the community & participate with them during community-based activities as requested.

Perform light housekeeping tasks that are incidental to the care and supervision of the individual in his/her home.

Assist the individual to accomplish the goals set in his/her Individual Support Plan.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Complete a unique progress note each time a time sheet is submitted.

Communication: Clearly and effectively presents information through oral and written means. Demonstrates clear and concise communication in individual or group situations. Listens and assimilates information on job performance.

Planning/ Organization: Plans and manages work to accomplish tasks on time. Plans and implements appropriate use of resources. Adapts to changing conditions. Prioritizes work demands and manages multiple tasks simultaneously.

Responsibility: Adheres to company policies and procedures and follows company guidelines in conducting business relationships.

Attendance: Adheres to program schedule and routines, which includes arriving to assigned location promptly and conforms to the agencys attendance standards. Attend all required meetings and trainings promptly.

Initiative: Self-reliance in thinking, planning, and carrying out job responsibilities. Demonstrates problem solving skills.

Management: Supports and enforces agency policies and objectives; sets example through personal conduct and performance.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of the following trainings: CPR and First Aid; Human Rights; Universal Precautions; Mandated Reporting; DPPC; Fire Safety and Vehicle Safety.
  • Must be willing to authorize a Criminal History Background Check (CORI) and release information concerning allegations from Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC), Department of Disability Services (DDS), and other agencies.
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable employees with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
  • Drivers License that is valid in Massachusetts and reliable personal transportation.
